Origami = Ultra Mobile PC
ついに Microsoft が全貌を明らかにした。
Origami Project というコミュニティサイトも同時オープン。開発者のブログや一般ユーザーが参加できるフォーラムなどで UMPCを盛り上げていくようだ。
ただ、どちらのサイトを見ても思うのはトピックの分け方がたとえば「ハードウェア/ソフトウェア」のように、供給側の目線で書かれていること。アーリーアダプターへの呼び水の段階といった感は否めない。
このUMPC。ハードウェア以外にも画面両端から扇形に広がるタッチキーボードだったり、FolderShareであったり、たしかにガジェットとして面白い部分はあるが、新しいサービスが得られるという感動がなく「どこでもWindowsが使える」といった印象しか受けなかった。WindowsCEの焼き直しに見える。
考え方がプロダクトアウトの家電メーカーっぽいという印象。Appleのように一般利用者やビジネスを惹きつける提案センスや間（ま）といったものは、未だMSには期待できないのかも知れない。
動向を見守ってみましょう

Windowsがそのまま動くというだけで，非常にわくわくしています。さらにキーボード付きモデルにはしびれてしまいます。もうそれだけで十分です。変にコンセプトとか，コンシューマ向けとか勘違いだけはしてほしくないですね。

WindowsCEの焼き直しというか、リプレイスするつもりではないでしょうかね？
価格面からもCEと真正面な気がします。
また、ノートパソコン使ってるのとどのへんが違うのか？ あまりに明確ではないと感じました。
ネットブラウズと、音楽聞けて、ビデオもオッケー、出先でやるような簡単なデータ入力をこなす……なら自分だったら、ノートパソコン不要と思うんですが。
この辺は、CEの方がコンセプトが明確だった気がします。
この価格で、XPフルスペックなら、どう考えてもノートパソコンもいらないなあ。
ちなみに、ここしばらくLinuxZaurusのSL-C860を使ってますが、先に書いたことはほぼ満足行くレベルで使えます（W。さすがにゲームとかは無理ですが。
ハードは面白そうと思う……もすこしスタイリッシュだといいかなあ。ちょっとゴツい(^^;。
