アラン・ケイのOne Laptop per Childがいよいよ実現
世界中の子供たちに100ドルのノートPCを配ろうというOne Laptop per Child（OLPC）が製造を台湾のQuantaに決定。最終設計から製造を担当するようです。
QuantaはHewlett-PackardやDellの製品もOEMで手掛けているようで以外と身近にお世話になっているかもしれないね。
ボクは以前、新型マウスの開発のために台湾に滞在したことがあります。当時、世界のマウスの７割のOEMシェアを持つメーカーは台湾にあったんだよね。このメーカーはMicrosoftマウスも作ってました。
ボクはPC側のドライバを書いていたんだけど、マウス側のファームウェアを書いていた王さんと意気投合してちょくちょく屋台に出かけたりしてました。台湾の人は押しが強く、車を運転させると車輌感覚がミリ単位でスゴイというイメージが残ってます。
OLPCもガンガン進めて欲しいですね（笑）
