Einstein - Cocoa対応
Einsteinは日々進化しています。
連休前に送られてきたEinsteinバイナリを起動してみて驚いたのは、今度はX11ではなくCocoaスクリーンマネージャーに対応したOS-XアプリケーションとしてのEinsteinが動き出したからだ。作者のPaulとのメールのやりとりでは、ついに「次のリリースは(Public Release 1)一般ユーザーのため」という言葉が出てきました。
いままでコンソールから起動していたために起動オプションはコマンドラインオプションになっていたわけだけど、この部分がGUIになっているのでとても使いやすい。Flashファイルの切り替えもこのGUIでやれば簡単。それ以外にも動かしてみると、いろんなところが使いやすくなっていました。
最高に使い勝手が良くなったのはパッケージのインストール。これはGNUEさんの要望でPaulが対応してくれたんだけど、Einsteinウィンドウの上にパッケージファイルをドラッグ＆ドロップするだけでインストールしてくれるというもの。次々と簡単にパッケージをインストールできるしファイル転送とインストール動作を別々のダイアログで表現してくれるので、インストールに関しては本物のNewtonよりも親切・便利かもしれないね。
DR2まではコマンドラインでのquitやpowerは若干クセがあったけど、今回試してみたバージョンではメニューバーからの操作になっていて非常に安定しており、内部の細かいバグフィックスや改善が成されたあとが見られます。
バックライトやパワースイッチもGUIツールバーから操作できるようになるそうで、こちらも楽しみです。Paulも「GUIでは変更がもういっぱいあるかもしれません」と言ってて、よりユーザーフレンドリーになった状態でPR1がリリースされること間違いなさそうです。

ついにPublic Releaseですね！ 起動がGUIになってかなりユーザーフレンドリーになったのではないでしょうか。ドラッグドロップでパッケージのインストールなんて夢みたいですね。

すばらしいですね。まさに夢の様です。インストールしたいと思いつつ、グダグタしている間に、どんどん進歩してしまってますね(^^;
個人的な要望として、NotePadやDates等のデータのインポート、エクスポートが（現在Newtonを使っていても）肝になっていますので、これを別アプリケーションがか、もしくはもっとシンプルな形で取り出せるようになると最高です。

どんどん進化していきますが、いずれは携帯できるマシンに載ることを夢見ていいのでしょうか。
とりあえず、RAMのサイズを簡単に設定できるようになるのが楽しみです。
日本語の入力までたどりつくのが目標ですが、もうちょっと軽く動いてくれると楽しいのですが。
ReadMeの翻訳ありがとうございます。
理解できるのは一部でしたが、サウンド周りの問題も書かれていたので、いずれは解決されるのではと安心しました。
