MacOS-XでNewtonエミュレータ
ClubNewtonの再開に合わせるように（笑）Newtonエミュレータのデベロッパーリリース２が公開されました。
開発者はATA Supportで有名なPaul Guyot。ついにやってくれました！
動作させるにはNewtonOSのダンプイメージが必要なのでNewtsBugなどでROMイメージを吸い上げる必要がある（つまりBasiliskのように実機本体を持っている人だけが利用できる）のですが、MacOS-X上の X11 で動作可能のようですね。
このアインシュタイン・プロジェクトではNewtonエミュレータの開発を通してNewtonOSとハードウェアを研究し、次のステップではPOSIX搭載のPDA向けに移植してPOSIXカーネルにNewtonOSを最適化するのだそうです。
現在はPCMCIAカードへのアクセス、シリアルポート、キーボード、サウンド入力などの機能は実装されていないようですが、その他は全て動いているということですよ。夜中の３時にNewtonが突然動き出すのは、現バージョンではサポート外のようです（笑）
Club Newtonではこのアインシュタイン・プロジェクトを実際に検証しながら追跡取材していく予定です。お楽しみに。
このプロジェクトに関わる Paul Guyot や Adam Tow など、熱い男達の言葉も見逃せませんよ！

これ、本体持っていれば動く？
例えば僕の PowerMac G5 2.5G Dual で動作させれば、メモリ領域は 1.5G ぐらいになるのかな（笑）。

本体持っていれば動くようだけど、パッケージのインストールができないのと、データを記録する部分が未完成なのでアプレットを起動するたびに初期状態になるらしい。
作っているのがPaulなのでメモリ関連の実装はそう遠い先の話ではないと思うよ。
彼の作ったATA-SupportではKingstonの5GB PCカードドライブを実装した実績があるからNewtonOSのメモリマネージャ的にはギガ単位まで行けるでしょう。

こんにちは、DP3 も出ましたね。
コマンドラインからですが、Power スイッチエミュレーションが少しだけできるようになって、データも残るようになりました。しかし、まだパッケージのインストールするための方法は公開されていないようです。 あと、TCP/IP経由でROMを吸い出すツールも同梱されました。
それより、次のリリース(DP4?)で画面サイズを変更できるようになるらしいです。1024x768 の画面にアプレットがたくさん起動している様はまるで Dashoard (Konfabulator)。
